Before choosing a puppy/ When you’re thinking about getting a puppy
Thinking of getting a new puppy? How exciting! But how do you know which puppy would be right for you? Contrary to popular belief, puppies are not 'clean slates': your puppy's genetics and early experiences will influence their future behaviour so it’s important to make good decisions at this stage.
Unfortunately, getting it wrong can result in much bigger issues than a bit of puppy-envy! Every day, dogs are given up because they were not a good 'fit' for their well-meaning owners. I can help you make the right choice. Once I’ve got to know what really matters to you, I'll use my specialist knowledge to help you choose the right puppy.
Knowing that all of this has been taken care of in the selection of your puppy, you will be able to relax and enjoy preparing for the arrival of your bundle of joy!

Your beautifully presented, personal Puppy Match Recommendation Report with all of the key details on each of your best-fit breeds, for you to consider.

How it works…
1 . Nice to Meet You!
We'll set up a video call so that I can find out all about you and what you're looking for in a dog so that I can help steer you in the right direction.
2 . Puppy Pairing
I'll identify a range of breeds/ types of dog that I think would be most suited to you. I'll detail each option (with pros and cons!) in your beautifully presented Recommendation Report.
3 . Puppy Pinpoint
Now, you need to find a great breeder. I’ll provide you with all the guidance you need to help you do your research and find someone who is a great fit for you. From where to find a breeder, what health tests to look for and what questions to ask - it’s all in here to help you.
4 . Puppy Picker (Optional Extra)
It’s time to pick your puppy from the litter! If your breeder isn’t choosing for you, I can guide you through the process to help you make the right choice, based on my observations of each pup (optional extra service).
5 . Prepare for The Big Day!
Now you’ve picked your perfect pup, you can just enjoy preparing to welcome them home! I can also help you with the next stage(s) through ‘Puppy’s Perfect Start’ and ‘Well Brought Up Pup’.

FAQs
+ What about if I want a dog for a particular purpose (eg. working/ showing)?
I specialise in puppies for pet homes so if your pup's primary purpose would be for work (eg. showing, hunting, assistance dog) then you should get advice from someone who specialises in that. However, if you are thinking of getting a specialist puppy (eg. working-bred or from a strong show line) to have as a pet then I'd be very happy to help you with choosing the right one for you.
+ Can you just find a puppy for me (or by a specific time), rather than me looking myself, with your help?
I will certainly support you with the process: finding a breeder with a litter is the 'Puppy Pinpoint' part of the service. However, you will need to make contact with breeders yourself, with guidance from me about what questions to ask etc. Breeders tend to prefer this approach (and bear in mind that good breeders can be very picky about who they choose to allow their pups to go to so it's important to make the best first impression). It also allows you to start to build a relationship with them which, if you decide you do want one of their pups, will be absolutely essential.
+ How can you guarantee that my puppy will be perfect for me?
Quite honestly, it's simply not possible to make guarantees about the future behaviour any living thing: there are many influences which will determine the outcome of your puppy (not least your own input!). However, by signing up to Puppy Match, you'll be taking a proactive approach to find a great fit for you. Even better, if you follow this up with 'Puppy's Perfect Start' and the ‘Well Brought Up Pup’ programme, you'll be doing all you can to have a great puppy!
+ I've had a dog before.... will this still be useful for me?
Absolutely! Whether you are an experienced owner or a complete novice, I can help you choose the right puppy for you. In fact, lots of experienced dog owners opt for this service because they want to avoid making the same mistakes that they feel they made with previous dogs and know from experience how important it is to make the right choice.
+ Can I see you in person?
Yes! Whilst Puppy Match is designed to be done remotely via video call, if you would like to have your session in person and you live around York/ Harrogate area, get in touch and we can arrange it (travel charges may apply).
